re: california being ablaze

i am fine! if any of you were concerned. thankfully, most of the fires are about an hour away from here in all directions. for now. *knock on elwood omg*

we had a devastating fire in my parents' neighborhood many years ago and it was terrifying. i was in college a few hours away and had to sit and watch the whole thing on tv, frantically trying to phone my parents (few lines were still working), not knowing whether or not my family was safe and if our house still existed. thankfully, they were and it did. they had the car packed and were ready to evacuate, but the wind shifted at the last minute and our street was spared. many other homes near us were not so lucky.

i have yet to hear back from my friend J who lives in san diego, but i'm hoping no news is good news? i'ma try her again when i get home. hope all you socal flisties are okay! <3


eta: also, if i'm ever not around, you can always look to wil wheaton's blog as a gauge to how things are in these parts, as i believe he still lives in my city. ;)

eta2: briefly spoke to my friend J. all i got was 'i'm at work, let me call you back.' so still no word on her family. *mojos out my pores just in case*

thank you. it's always so hard when you're getting news from out of the area. even just finding out what's happening in san diego (which is only about two hours from here) has been trying.
