brokeback mountain nyc premiere
now that's more like it. :)
arrived at the theater to find
camillafarfalla holding our spots at the front of the railing a few feet from the teeny weeny red carpet press line. things were immediately looking up! our enthusiasm, however, was promptly squashed when the press photographers were corralled into the space between us and the red carpet. no worries, we'll just look over you guys. oh, you all brought step ladders? wow, that's quite the wall of winter coated backs you've formed. swell. =/
at this point camilla ventured off to work her magic and inquire about tickets. i stayed put in the hopes that... well, it had to be better than king kong, it just had to be. and sure enough it was.
a few pictures - but keep in mind they're around, through, & over a wall of photographers, so... yeah. i got what i could. (it also took me a while before i realized that i could hold my camera way up high above my head and snap a photo - still getting used to this digital world :p)

heath arrives!

with michelle :)

heath talks to press (kyan from queer eye can sorta be seen further down the press line)

heath & michelle

photographer backs-- i mean, heath

anne hathaway actually came over to sign a few autographs. keep in mind it was friggin' freezing out - what a trooper she is!

hee!

ang lee also came over to sign! so cute.
also in attendance, but not photographed well by me, were:
* larry mcmurtry & diana ossana (writers)
* kyan from queer eye
* joan allen
* sigourney weaver
* sophia copola
* chazz palminteri
* lili taylor
* i think maybe jeffrey wright (basquiat, angels in america) eta: yep, it was him! :D
* some cute guy that i sorta maybe recognized, or maybe not, i dunno
oh! and camilla's mojo worked wonders yet again so we scurried in to take our seats just seconds before the film started. of course, moments after sitting down i realized just what i was in for, again, and oh my heart what was i thinking? second viewing in two days. oi. but it was wonderful. and beautiful. ♥ my only dilemma now is whether or not i can do it a third time this weekend. i really, really want to give this movie my money and help its opening box office, but owwie. *clutches aching heart* we'll see.

eta 2: slightly spoilery items in comments. tread carefully.

i'm glad you got to see some celebs, sweetie, after the king kong disappointment. and free tickets - the best!

it would have been nice to see someone at the king kong premiere, but what disappointed me most was just that billy and elijah weren't there. pictures of the boys smiling and hugging would have redeemed spending three hours in the cold. oh well, spilt milk and all that. ;) besides, i got to see cowboys in love for free! :D

that must have been so much fun (despite the freezing!)

and yes! i couldn't feel my fingers by the end, but overall it was much fun. =)

But, oh!! You got to see the film again. *envies* Was it just as heart-rending the 2nd time?

the second viewing was oddly quite different for me. 1) it went FAST. i was not prepared to arrive at the end so quickly. 2) i cried much, much more. 3) i lost a bit of the happiness that i felt for them the first time around. maybe that's because the 'woulda coulda's if only the world was different it's so fucking unfair goddamnit' -ness of it all had time to brew, stew, and marinate in me since the first viewing. nonetheless, i still loved it very, very, very much.

Oh, see, I know that's how I'm going to be. Savoring those quiet moments & the joy when they're on Brokeback & then when they first reunite after the 4 years apart. And I know the last argument/hug is going to make me sob like a girl. Unfortunately, I can't go again until Sunday (plans on Saturday & on Friday, I must show my boy Ken Watanabe some love), but I'm hoping I'll be better prepared. I doubt I will be, though.
I just know this film is going to wind up being my Titanic.

oh, you mean the kind of movie that you turn off half way through so they live happily ever after together? rose and jack have sex and gleefully run out onto the deck. *happy sigh* the end. ;)
yes, i agree.

Okay, that, too, but I meant more the film that I'll see over & over again & cry every time over how tragic & beautiful it is.
*draws hearts around Ennis & Jack*
