the end of an era... * woe*
Angel Finale
hmm... conflicted feelings here. 1) so very very sad it's over. 2) thought there was some really good stuff there, yay! 3) thought there needed to be some more good stuff there, no yay.
the good:
so happy that the humor still lives! honestly, the demon slaying and the relationship drama/'family' dynamic of the show is good, but it's the humor, the biting wit and charm, that keeps me wanting more more more. and it's great when it catches you off-guard, like angel's "i want you lindsey", and spike's poetry slam, omg, best!
dare i say it.. connor. i hated him before, waste of space and story time he was. whiny and annoying (right up there with buffy's sis dawn). but this season, wow. i actually liked it when he came back a few episodes ago and tonight! omg, i loved it. i let out a huge gasp and 'oh!' when i saw that angel went to see him. and then when he showed up to save angel's ass i gasped again followed by 'YEAH!' *fistpump*
lorne. his sorrow and dismay. this life has certainly taken it's toll on him, he's not the same character he was in the beginning. and him shooting lindsey. did NOT see that coming. at ALL. wow. (i never liked lindsey, so whatever with him dying, pfft.)
illyria's fight scene, or lack thereof. didn't need it. just show us a mangled car and we get the rest. brilliant. =)
wes' death scene with illyria/fred. i thought there would be more build up to him being mortally wounded, it felt too quick for me. but maybe that's because i knew it was coming (damn my need to read spoilers!). but once he was lying on the ground and illyria turned to fred i was done for. that amy acker is so good. it's seriously like i'm watching two very different people.
everything with spike. what can i say, i loff him. spike/angel moments are teh best. "can i deny you three times?" lol! there simply must be more of this sometime down the road, it's too good.
the ending. quick it was and not too promising... but these are our boys (and illyria), they'll make us proud. =)
and now, the bad:
too many scenes were rushed or non-existent, it went too fast. we needed a two hour finale to properly and respectfully wrap everything up, damn it. when they were all going off to battle their assigned demons and wes and angel look at each other and do a quick head nod i was like 'wtf, that's it?!' after all these years, everything they've been through. wes has been his right hand man for how long now? yes, there was that whole connor mishap thing, but come on there is so much love between them and that's all we get a little head nod? no shared words or a touch... just a nod. hmph, not enough.
when the gang met up in the alley and learned of wes' death. there was... nothing. maybe i need to re-watch this part. maybe it was too subtle that my wary eyes simply did not pick up on the woe. i mean, come on people, WES. just DIED. bueller?
the fighting scenes also seemed a bit quick and far too easy (aside from wes' and angel's). but they all just went in and boom, your dead. boom, your dead. next. i didn't feel the jeopardy, i wasn't all that worried for them, it looked fairly easy. in buffy's finale, watching them fight those thousands and thousands of vamps i seriously was like - O_O how are they getting out of this one alive?! it should have appeared more difficult for 7 people to take out the entire axis of evil. and again, no build up to wes' death. just a quick, oh you tried and failed now you're dead.
and the worst thing of all? the montage at the end of the show. i was watching along all happy and sad and heart full of love for the jossworld, when at the end it says "from your friends at the WB". *RAGE* OMG WTF YOU SUCK ASS YOU MOTHERFUCKERS! i promptly raised a big fat fuck you middle finger to the screen. the NERVE of them! fucking bite me...
overall... it was a decent ending. i'm happy enough. the good parts still outweigh the bad in my mind. and even if the bad parts are a plenty, that's hardly the way i want to remember something so dear to my heart. i don't want to get all caught up and nit picky about what they could have done better. instead i'd rather roll around naked in the nuggets of funny and clutch my precious jossworld to my bosom. it will be strange indeed without any buffy or angel on the tele. lucky for us there are repeats and dvds!

I also agree that it SHOULD have been a 2 hour SERIES finale for godsake!
So when is this movie being made? I guess I need to check the web for all that.

i'm not mad at joss for doing this, he loves to kill off great characters, he's not afraid to take those chances. last year when buffy ended i hadn't heard that spike would be going to angel, and i thought he really died. as in for good. there was some serious woe on my part, but i couldn't blame joss, it made sense, this is what he does. but again! the great thing about jossverse is that the end is not always the end! how many times did buffy die and come back?! maybe cordi did intervene after illyria left the scene (not lame, good!), we don't know... unlikely, yes, but anything is possible with joss. =)
as far as i know, no movie plans are in the works yet, just a bit of talk here and there. david has said he doesn't want to do a cheesy tv movie, basically a theatrical deal or nothing at all. but as long as joss stays in charge i can't see how anything he would do could ever be lame. james sounds interested in just about anything, a spin-off maybe? though i think spike is better as a side-kick, not necessarily the leading man. joss sounds determined to keep the buffyverse going somehow in the future which is a comforting thought.
OMG i'll shut up now! the buffyverse is the one thing that really gets me going and once i start talking/typing about it i find it hard to stop my mind just keeps rambling on and on and on eek! =)
