one week away and it feels like... okay, not quite forever, but a really long time.

vacation back in cali with the fam was pretty darn great, considering. considering usually by the second day my mother's incesant droning makes me long for a mute button, or a pointy stick, or a happy place where boys kiss (this is where i often wind up, traveling back for the occasional "uh-huh", "oh", "right", and "mmm"). luckily, by the third and fourth days the noise eases up as there are things to be done, other people to talk at, and i've found the car keys.

i spent christmas eve day watching rotk:ee on my parents' gianormous tv with fellow lotr enthusiasts (two teen-age boys and their dad) who waited to watch it with me. *touched omg* <3 details on the ee to come, but of course, for the most part, i loved. christmas eve evening there was food, and drinks, and family, and friends, and a muskrit. <3 much fun was had. christmas day was relaxy and loungy. watched some of the appendices, played with my nephews (2 and 6) *adores*, and enjoyed another scrumptious meal. later that night i grabbed a drink with a friend and his girlfriend du jour at a surprisingly, dare i say, "hip" bar in pasadena, not a fratboy in sight.

sunday i went to the body worlds exhibit at the california science center which was fascinating. a friend of mine went to the exhibit in london two years ago and while it sounded rather bizarre and creepy to me, she assured me that it was amazing, a must see. and that it was. essentially, it's an exhibit of cadavers, actual bodies that have been preserved through plastination which allows the viewer to explore the intricacies of the human body: skin, muscles, bones, blood vessels, organs, etc. i must admit there were a few times i felt a bit queasy, certain things i just couldn't look at for long before needing to walk away. but those were my own personal squicks, not because anything was particularly gross or frightening (for example, knee caps freak me out, and seeing one flipped up *wavy dismissing hands omg can't think about it!*). anyhow, interesting show, check it out if you can.

what else... saw a crappy, yawn-inducing musical, caroline, or change (how can this be the same tony kushner? does not compute.); saw a much more interesting film, closer (always comforting to see natalie portman act well as i know she can - damn you, george lucas, for putting doubt in my mind!); listened to many thrilling tales of determined girls and the adorable boys they love; and i saw an insomniac's nightmare (so bad, but DOM! yaye).

i also just realized in my great efforts to keep my boobs (or rather, the metal rings that hang from them) hidden from my family (hi i'm 33 wtf), i managed to also not show them to the one person i wanted to, who maybe wanted to see them. hrmph. next time, yis!

and now, i'm back. had to work yesterday which blew, but i managed to get today off, so WOOHOO! there has already been sleeping in and much coffee this morning. now there must be food and cleaning, much cleaning. *eyes exploded luggage* but first, more lounging. =)

*readies apartment for tea!invasion*

*has eleven weeks to clean and prepare*

*will likely start in ten weeks and 6 days*

as my roommate can attest, willful procrastination often beats out the best of my intentions. thank goodness i'm so cute. :D
