i drink to be merry

i've had these two posts sitting on my computer half finished for over a week now. figured today was fitting to finish them and omg post already, rather than deserting them to the circular bin.
who knew you could totally rock an accordion?! SO. MUCH. FUN. flogging molly seriously know how to put on a show. and to think, just a few weeks ago i knew virtually nothing about them and picked up their cd on a whim (largely in part to
strawberryelfsp's flogging enthusiasm). they quickly won my heart (much like franz ferdinand - the winning of my heart, not the music).
during the opening band (not a clue who they were), we grabbed a seat off to the left of the stage. to my left was an adolescent harry potter with a group of indoor kids. to my right, high school cheerleaders and their would be fratboy boyfriends. then mr. incredibly-drunk-soon-to-be-college-graduate came over to chat it up with me while ruckiss went on a beer run. turns out, it's amazing that i'm in my 30's and at a flogging molly show. he seemed to believe it was near impossible for someone in their 30s to go out at night. uh-huh. oh, look, the bands coming out - see ya!
i did partake of the guinness, but only one because not an hour after the doors opened, they ran out. of guinness. the show? was sponsored by guinness. it's an irish band. wtf?! had to switch to heiney, which is so not the same.
so we moved closer to the stage, still off to the left (our left, i guess stage right if you're on stage). the band came out and proceed to ROCK for the next hour and half. \o/ also? from the pictures in the liner notes, i was more than a little intrigued with nathen, the bass player. i think it was largely due to the tattoos up and down his arms. :) well, sure enough, he was parked on our side of the stage, not 5 feet from us. \o/ it's so silly, but when he came out, i was scrambling to see his arms. i needed to see his tats because only then would my brain truly believe it was him.
and at the end of the show, nathen came out into the audience to say hi, sign autographs, hug people, and oh! how i wanted to go say something. but, sadly, he went to the opposite side of the stage, far far away from me. did i smell? *shrug* besides, what would i say other than my usual OMG I LOVE YOU which, admittedly, is so lame.
in closing, i bought a t-shirt which i'm wearing today! but then i stole another t-shirt because i suck. :/ i'm feeling major angst about it, too. at the end of the show, the place was clearing out and there it was, just sitting there, abandoned. i waited and waited, i did! ruckiss and i even walked away for a bit, leaving it out in the open and nobody claimed it. so i eventually went over and shoved it in my bag. but then i felt soooooo guilty about it. like, what if i ruined some poor girl's evening because she spent all her babysitting money on this shirt, and now has to leave empty handed? but maybe she was a spoiled rich kid who got so bombed she carelessly left her stuff behind and i taught her a valuable lesson. maybe? eep! as it turns out, it's a child's size shirt, size small. it fits, but just barely. i'm thinking perhaps i should give the shirt away to another small chested fan so as to diminish any bad karma that will rightfully be coming my way. any takers?
the band. (that's nathen all the way to the right)

and two pics of nathen, just cuz. (swiped from their website, not from that night)

and another from a fan (who i cropped out since i'm totally posting this without asking her permission, i'm so evil, but HI OMG how could i resist look at that smile! i left in the dude on his left so you could see some of nathen's tats) :D

ps, i'll totally take this down if asked, but until then, wheeee!
thanks to loews generosity, last night (or rather last week) i saw gangs of new york (for free, and on the big screen) for the first time and i must say, i really, really enjoyed it. much more so than the aviator. with the aviator, i couldn't get past the fact that i was watching leo up on screen. but in gangs, i really got into his character and sorta forgot it was leo (only not, yum). and i was all set to hate cameron diaz, but dang it, she was pretty good. i thought she and leo had decent chemistry together which i certainly wasn't expecting.
leo's accent came and went, but for the most part it didn't really bother me. perhaps because i'm continually impressed with his acting skillz, so i'm willing to let some things slide. and god, daniel day lewis. dude. the man is a master. it would have been really simple to leave his character a bloodthirsty monster, but instead he also gave him this humanity, this vulnerability. nonetheless, how dead did i want bill the butcher? SO dead.
and the dead rabbits' battle-march drumming theme? fucking awesome. i was ready to get in line with them and scream, 'let's go kick some ass!' i had no idea until the credits that howard shore did the score! <3
and do you want to know how awesome i am? the moment the guy who played shang came on the screen, i knew i knew him, from somewhere. so i immediately leaned over to
ruckiss and said, 'who is that?' because between the two of us, we can usually summon completely useless information without much difficulty. but she couldn't quite place him and neither could i. but i couldn't let it go and kept racking my brain. i was getting a marky mark vibe. but then thought, no. donnie. why? i had no idea. but i dismissed it, assuming it was probably the physical resemblance. but the next day, ruckiss dashed to imdb and discovered that shang (stephen graham) was in band of brothers. as was donnie fricken wahlberg. \o/ *victory dance* my spidey senses are... peculiar.
also, A TEA IS COMING A TEA IS COMING!!!1 i'm picking up miss withbears from the airport this evening and a weekend of utter silliness shall ensue. \:D/
also also, dom and billy say HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY, FLIST!
or, at least, they did last year. <333
