i am hoping to get pierced sometime within the next month, however, i have no idea where to go. i went to one place years ago on 8th street, which seemed decent, but that was just for ear cartilage, nothing too difficult. i've looked on-line, but you can't really tell how experienced/clean/reputable they are. in my experience, word of mouth is usually the best bet. people seem to find and hang on to their One True Piercer whom they trust and send all their friends to (which is what i'm hoping for here).

so if anyone has any recommendations i would be most grateful! places you been to and liked, places to avoid. even if it's just, "well, my friend goes here..." or "i've heard good things about this guy". any info whatsoever would be greatly appreciated!

...in fact, while you're at it, if you have any rec's for tattoo parlors, that would be helpful as well.

THANKS! =)

Have you thought about going to the place where Elijah and Orli brought Sean Bean to get his Fellowship tattoo? It is called Fun City Tattoo. They used to have a gallery of pics of famous people who have visited. Johnny has gone there too...

http://www.funcitytattoo.com/

I think they are just tattoos though, no piercings. If you call them they might reccommend someplace.

But it is a good idea to try and get a personal rec from someone if you can.

Jeanine got hers at Fun City, I believe (that's the one on St. Marks across from the Yaffa Cafe, yes?); we had a conversation about it last time I saw her. She loves it - I've walked by there with her twice and she always points it out - it is also where Sean went, and there's pictures of him (with Elijah and Orli) up on the wall! So you'd have distraction if you went there... *g*

this was for a tat not a piercing, yes? that jeanine got? will definitely check out Fun City for a tattoo, but that's going to be further down the road, as i know where i want it, just not entirely sure what i want. but perhaps, as [livejournal.com profile] stell266 mentioned, they would be able to rec a piercing place - i'm sure people ask them often.

and a distraction of sean, lij, and orli is always a good thing. =)

Obviously, being across the continent, I have no recs. But omg are you getting pierced what I think you're getting pierced??

And as for Sean, he had already left NZ when they did the tattoos. And he was terrified of needles, too, so Orlando grabbed him when some of them were in NYC and they all went down and he got it.

OMG YES!! HOLD MY HAND MMKAY?

right after our convo i went online to find out more specifics and look for places. i was 70% sure at the time, and now i'm like 99% sure. i really want them. bad. it's just not the wisest time for me, as i shouldn't really be spending that much money on 'jewelry'. but i figure, i'll do my research now, find a place, and in a month i'll either a) come up with the money, or b) just say fuck it i want them and i'm getting them damn it, and come up with the money. =) who needs to eat, right?

i also just bought this book, SuicideGirls, which is filled with beautiful pictures, and it made me want them more liek whoa infinity. i'm doing it damn it, screw the pain!

and as for sean, awww, terrified to fly and terrified of needles. *pets him* and orlando grabbing sean, and going down, and getting it, mmm... me thinks you be writing fic in my LJ. :D *mind perpetually in gutter*

!!! normally, i'd be really bummed for having completely missed that - however, now... i just breathe, and calmly remind myself that i shouldn't be spending money right now anyhow, so even if i knew about that, i probably wouldn't have gone.

...fjdsrjeskajfl!!1! damn.

they also had a signing/performance at the virgin in union square - but of course, i was too busy seeing harry potter at the time. *curses*

any other help i can give, you know i'm here!

eeeeeeeeeeeeeek! *excited for you!*

those prices seem pretty similar to what i've found out here. so, uh... how much is one supposed to tip would you say? obviously, it would vary depending on how good of a job they did - but... is it 20% like most other things? if it's $120, would $150 be about right? i'm always afraid of not tipping enough, so i generally overtip, just to be sure - the delivery guys around here make bank when they come to our apartment, i swear.

in this case, your instincts wouls be correct. piercers ususally get paid minimum wage by the hour, and their tips are where their real income comes from. i'd say 20% would be right, but ask when you first go in, or when you call to make your appointment. they even usually have a sign up.
