+ i took a break from the internet this weekend, which wasn't necessarily intentional, i was just surprisingly busy, but it was kind of nice to just... unplug, and not fret over what i might be missing. and in the little bit of free time i did have, i caught up on buffy: season 8 which is always good times.

+ this morning i woke up 10 minutes before i was supposed to leave for work. oops. O_O

+ i ran three miles in the canyon last week and it wasn't horrible! i haven't been able to say that in a long time. and then i ran 7 miles yesterday (with quite a few walking breaks), and i felt pretty good. there might just be some hope yet.

accommodations have been secured for the san diego half-marathon this april, so that one is definitely a go. LA is still up in the air. it's the first weekend of december, and normally two months should be enough time for me to train, but this october is pretty much a wash for me. i'm booked every weekend until halloween. i'm hoping that i can use weekday evenings this month to get back up to speed for the shorter runs - where 5-8 miles is No Problemo (with minimal walking breaks) - and then i can use the month of november to push for the longer distances. idk idk!

i'm actually kind of excited about this. i didn't really feel that the first time around (two years ago). back then my mother was pushing us all to run (it was kind of a family bonding/mother's day thing) so i felt obligated - which brings with it only so much motivation. but this time around it's all me, and what I want to push for. i admit, i'm kind of high on the little feelings of accomplishment i get from finishing each run, even the small ones. it's like, i did that. me! it's crazy and unbelievable, but i did it.

+ here's wishing a most glitterific birthday to [livejournal.com profile] downmiles! i am so very grateful to have you in my life, bb. hart hart hart! ♥

+ zombieland = an A++ GOOD TIME. \o/ i feel better knowing that i'm already working on rule #1. :D

+ oh! also yesterday we briefly paused half-way on our run at the rose bowl where they were having a Race for the Rescues! everyone was walking/running with their doggies! big dogs and little dogs, all tail-wagging and on a mission. you guys, it was the cutest ever, and made it doubly hard to get back on the trail and finish the second half of our run. and i admit i scanned the crowd briefly for a bob, or a FRANK, or a piglet! :DDD i mean, shelters and pups, it's right up their alley! alas, nada.

Even when I was in the best swimming shape of my life, and could knock off 5 miles in the pool with no problem, I could never run more than 200 yards at a stretch without nearly having a heart attack. Now I know that that was my charming adrenaline-triggered arrhythmia, but I also have very vivid memories of being insanely proud the one and only time I finished the mandatory 1-mile run in PE in under 10 minutes. Of course, I also passed out 20 minutes later, but, you know.

Whenever anyone talks about running multiple miles I just sort of keel over in awe. You rule, bb.

when i first started running i made the mistake of taking off full speed ahead, and naturally i would be winded almost immediately. then i learned the key to long distance running is actually going at a fairly slow, comfortable speed. i am nowhere near a 10-minute mile - probably closer to 15-min mile, if that.

now swimming, holy moly, one lap and i'm fricken WIPED. i am equally in awe when it comes to that kind of stamina.

because after a race you are DONE. you did it! and now, splat. no more. i'm just gonna lie here all afternoon, don't bother me. and eff you, running shoes, stop mocking me with your presence. i do what i want!

i think it's okay to take some time. your body will tell you when it's ready again.

i was so much fun!! i mean, there were several parts that didn't make a whole lot of sense in the grand scheme, but whatever! it so doesn't matter! i laughed and laughed and laughed some more. the rules were definitely one of my favorite bits. :DDD
