HAPPY CANADA DAY to my northern friends! *red and white confetti*

this had me rolling, Joe Canadian Rant, found by [livejournal.com profile] bodygardener.

and THIS is bloody brilliant (though not at all related to canada day), Bloody Good Mates, found by [livejournal.com profile] beizy. a short film about how pj and richard taylor supposedly met and the event that inspired their collaboration. interesting fun fact: philippa's son calum makes an appearance.

and in other news, i finally saw Master and Commander! so now i know what all the hubbub is about. and dude, jack and stephen, ♥. and nagle is quite the little hottie, indeed! aside from the doctor, i'd say he was my favorite. *but then tear* and the one brunette baby *again, tear*, but the blond baby! \o/ and billy! to bonden, i say YAY! and, huh? *head tilt* but that's true for a lot of them. watched it twice, and still, several times... huh? what was that? and man alive, some of those scenes were hard to watch. thank god for the fast forward button upon second viewing. blech. but the music, and the scenes of them playing together... *happy contented sigh* possible soundtrack purchase.

and tonight, heading to yankee stadium for the red sox game. what would normally be a joyous occasion, feels rather dreary and meh now, but... we'll see. go pedro. here's to nasty cheese fries, overpriced pisswater beer, and making it out of the ballpark unscathed. w00t.

yes, i have finally seen the light regarding the big gay boat movie!

though, i must admit, i was a bit lost during the first viewing. so they're in battle with the other ship. men jump into another boat, start rowing, and all of a sudden the battle is over and yay, everybody is calm and relaxed again. o_O bzuh? but how... where did... wha happen'? *scratches head* :D so yeah. the battle scenes confused me a bit at first, but i LOVED everything else, all the personal stuff.

*runs out to get soundtrack and dvd for the extras!*

well, you see, they're in pursuit of the other ship, the acheron, but IT finds THEM first. and suckiness ensues. and they don't have the advantage of being able to maneauver and sail as well as the other ship (the weather gauge), so if they can't get away, they'll just be bombarded to pieces. so they get out boats and row to help get away and hide in the fogbank. and they do. so yay! but they're badly damaged, and should go home, but they DON'T because it's LUCKY JACK AUBREY and he KNOWS THEY CAN DO EET. and they do! yay! but people die. woe.

THE DVD EXTRAS ARE THE BEST PART WATCH THE DELETED SCENES 'SHIPBOARD LIFE' OMG MY BABY BONDEN AND NAGEL!

dude, where was this brilliant summary BEFORE i watched the movie?! the first viewing would have gone much smoother had i had it. i'm thinking, so they hit fog and that's it? done? fog = time out? and the other boat completely disappears from sight? but by the second viewing, it all came together. and then i realized russell and crew do actually explain what happened (for the good doctor - and us common folk), but the first time, i was still all, huh? wha? me no understand your language. speak NORMAL. *dum* and i pride myself on being able to understand billy. usually, i have to translate what he says for my roommate. but in this movie... jeesh. i think i only caught every third word or so. oh forget it then, just get to the boy kissing already. cuz really, jack & stephen? they're fooling no one.

yay for extras! <3

sorreh! if i'd known you were gonna watch it, i coulda helped you out. it helps, too, that i've read a few of the books - the terminology is more natural to me now. but yeah. they *do* explain, but it's hard to catch, i know. very quick-paced. i like how they talk funny! <3 period speech, <3 english speech, <3 billy speech!

it must be just that i was raised on the bbc and british sitcoms and movies and talking books - i get everything everyone says, irish, british, scottish, whatever. unless there's slang i don't know, and sometimes even then, i'm right there with them. we were watching bbc world news last night and it hit me when they had an amaerican analyst on that i hadn't noticed AT ALL that the anchorwoman had this amazingly strong upper-class british accent. it was just so natural for me to hear those tones and pronunciations. *shrug*

hi,i'm odd.
